Federal and state politicians visit large-scale test facility for e-fuels

Large-scale test facility for e-fuels produces first 15,000 litres in continuous test operation / Federal Minister for Digital and Transport Affairs Wissing and Minister President Kretschmer visit the site to find out more.

A consortium of research and industry, including teams from TU Bergakademie Freiberg and Chemieanlagenbau Chemnitz GmbH, is planning to produce a total of 380,000 litres of green petrol (e-fuel) over the next four years as part of the DeCarTrans joint research project funded by the BMDV. The synthetic fuel will be produced in a large-scale test facility in Freiberg, Saxony, from biogenic or regeneratively produced methanol. On 25 May, the first 15,000 litres of synthetic petrol produced in the project were collected from the pilot plant.

The DeCarTrans project is being funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs with a total of 14,932,696.11 euros as part of the overall concept for renewable fuels. The funding guideline for the development of renewable fuels is coordinated by NOW GmbH and implemented by the project management organisations VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH and Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe e. V. Agency for Renewable Resources.
